Process Simulation for Ethylbenzene Dehydrogenation to Styrene

Four processes for ethylbenzene dehydrogenation to styrene including the ethylbenzene two-stage dehydrogenation,ethylbenzene three-stage dehydrogenation,ethylbenzene dehydrogenation-oxidation and ethylbenzene dehydrogenation-oxidation-heat exchange processes were simulated by using Aspen Plus software for the sake for providing a guidance of selecting a more economical process in new plant design.The comparison of the processes were mainly directed against traditional ethylbenzene two stage dehydrogenation.The steam consumption of the two dehydrogenation-oxidation processes could be saved by 35% and 37% in comparing with ethylbezene two-stage dehydrogenation process.The installation of hydrogen burning reactor obviously decreased hydrogen in tail-gas.The compressor power consumptions of the two processes therefore decreased 38% and 67%.Single pass conversion of ethylbenzene in both processes reached more than 80%,so the cycling ethylbenzene of both processes decreased substantially.The related steam consumptions of distillation part dropped by 15% and 17%
